Saying Goodbye to Rico

Yonrico Vondez Scott – October 6th, 1955 – September 18, 2019

Rico was a drummer, percussionist, visual artist, educator, father, brother, and friend. Born in Detroit Michigan, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia after college. During his extensive musical career Rico was a successful studio drummer who played with Aretha Frankin, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, and many others. He also fronted his own band, the Yonrico Scott Band, releasing 6 studoo albums. Most known however for his contribution to the Derek Trucks Band and member of the GRAMMY award winning ensemble for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2009. He was always found painting and doodling on what became set lists, programs, passes, and more. Rico was always full of joy and light and yesterday on September 24th, we celebrated his life. As a treasured creative and soulful member of our extended family, he will be truly missed.
