Into The Presence joins Entourage Talent
Entourage Talent is proud to announce the addition of Tim Alexander and Luis Carlos Maldonado's new project, Into the Presence (Album due in April '09 on Razor & Tie), to our roster! Alexander, the legendary drummer from Primus and A Perfect Circle, is joined by Maldonado on guitar and vocals (UFO / Train). The duo is rounded out by recording bassist Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle), live bassist Nicki Tedesco (Carol Kaye, Bomb) and cellist Ana Lenchantin (Brian Wilson, Trent Reznor, Gnarls Barkley). Scroll down to check out their full bio!
Into the Presence was formed in 2008 by session musician and songwriter, Luis Carlos Maldonado. His credits include performing and writing with John Waite, Glenn Hughes, Pat Monahan, and Train (on the recent, smash album, Save Me, San Francisco), to name a few. Originally a vehicle for a solo album, Luis, encouraged by friend and fellow musician, Tim Alexander, recorded the self-titled debut album at Alexander's private studio in the ghost town of Jerome, Arizona.
Alexander brought in sisters Ana and Paz Lenchantin to contribute to the self titled work, in which only Ana would become a member of the live group and later a core member.
Each musician involved in the project had worked separately with groups that included A Perfect Circle, Zwan, Trent Reznor, Primus, Jenny Lewis, Gnarls Barkley and Queens of the Stone Age to their credit.
It was a musical endeavor that would concentrate on real time performances. The album had boasted using analog equipment with nothing of the digital realm to be found anywhere on it. "We recorded this album on a two-inch analog format so there was no digital," Maldonado explains in a RockWired.com interview. "There was no cutting and pasting or auto-tuning. The recording is an honest documentation of what went on in the studio."
Following mixing, Into the Presence formally became a group. The band’s name originated from the many paranormal experiences in and out of the studio during the time of the recordings. It is widely known amongst Luis’ associates that the other-worldly seem to follow him just about everywhere. However, Maldonado has been known to be extremely reserved when asked about these experiences in interviews.
Into the Presence was signed by industry mogul, Michael Caplan, for Razor and Tie Records. While waiting for their album to hit the streets, the band toured and played festivals to pave the way. The recording was well received by the press, including Alexander F. Remington of The Washington Post who wrote:
"Into the Presence is superlative progressive rock and one of the best rock albums of the year… If there's still such a thing as rock-and-roll radio, this album should be in heavy rotation".
Unfortunately, other than a scant initial press mailing, Into the Presence never properly saw the light of day. They still continued to tour despite being stuck on a label now going through massive restructuring. Starting with their A&R person, Michael Caplan, parting ways with Razor and Tie, other support staff faded one by one, and Into the Presence began experiencing changes of its own (Tim Alexander now out of the group).
Meanwhile the band, in varying incarnations, continued building its high-caliber reputation for their live performances. Luis was welcomed into the greater music community, while his singing and guitar playing were constantly noted.
In 2010, Guitar World magazine featured Luis and they also included him on their "Betcha Can't Play This" series of videos.
After parting ways from their previous record label, Into the Presence landed a new and promising recording contract with Florida-based Bieler Brothers Records, where their first album is now finally on its way to being properly released, including two additional bonus tracks featuring the new, solidified line-up:
Luis Carlos Maldonado: Vocals, Guitar
Ana Lenchantin: Cellist
Morgan Young: Drums
Nils Bryant: Bass and guitar.
In a short amount of time the band's label, Bieler Brothers, released their single, "End Game," as they finished filming an official music video for the single directed by John Alan Thompson.
2011 kicks off a great year for the band. Their second CD is already written, and Into the Presence is hard at work in pre-production for it, all the while moving forward to properly promote their first release this coming year.
